Featuring “Mary Tells All”

Pat Schultz, as Mary Emsley Adams, will share her personal stories of the history of The Historic Park Inn Hotel, scandals, tragedies, and family and friends’ secrets.

Mary Emsley Adams founded the City National Bank along with her husband Thomas in 1873.  Thomas died in 1886 and Mary assumed the leadership of the bank.  Her son-in-law J.E.E. Markley and his law partner James Blythe were on the board of directors in the early 1900s when it was decided to commission a new bank and hotel.

Pat has done extensive research on Mary, her family, and other leading Mason City figures of the era as well as on the history of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed City National Bank and Hotel, now restored as The Historic Park Inn Hotel.  The material is both historically informative and entertaining as well.
