Wright designed the doghouse for the Robert Berger family in San Anselmo, California. After the family’s Wright-designed home was completed, one of the Berger sons wrote to Wright asking for the doghouse design so they could build it for their dog Eddie. Wright completed the design in 1957 and the structure was completed in 1963.
In 1973 the doghouse was removed and thrown away, but in 2010 Jim and Eric Berger, Robert’s sons, rebuilt it from the original plans for a segment in a Michael Miner documentary about Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural work in California. It now comprises a traveling exhibit to various Wright sites. The doghouse is the smallest structure Wright designed.
